COMPETITION OVERVIEW

For Participants

Join the competition and experience the fun of mechanical puzzle solving! Participation is open to everyone aged 14 and older, regardless of experience level. Registration typically runs from August through September, with limited spots at each venue.

On competition day, usually held on the last Saturday of November, participants collect their limited-edition competition kit at their selected venue and have two hours to solve seven original mechanical puzzles featuring different difficulty levels, mechanisms, and materials. Each solved puzzle reveals a word or number to record on an answer sheet, and participants keep the puzzle kit after the event.

Venue staff submit the answer sheets for review and scoring. Official solutions and global rankings are then published on our website, and prizes are shipped to the top performers in each category.

For Host Venues

Hosting the competition requires minimal effort. Schools, game stores, educational centers, and other suitable venues only need to provide an adequate event space with sufficient seating and work surfaces, light on-site supervision, and a designated contact person to coordinate with our team.

Based on the number of participants registered at your venue, we will ship all the necessary materials directly to you in advance for a ready-to-host event.

OUR MISSION

train

Our goal is to promote mechanical puzzles as meaningful, brain-boosting games that nurture creativity, focus, and perseverance, regardless of background or experience level.

We aim to demonstrate that mechanical puzzles are powerful learning and team-building tools that bring people together and make experiences fun, social, and deeply rewarding. By partnering with game stores, schools, libraries, educational centers, community hubs, and organizations of all kinds, we turn every event into a shared celebration of curiosity, problem-solving, and hands-on discovery.

MECHANICAL PUZZLES

puzzle

Mechanical puzzles are crafted from quality materials such as wood, acrylic or metal and come in many forms - assembly, disentanglement, interlocking, mazes, hidden mechanisms, and more.

Their power lies in their tactile nature: physical, collectible objects that invite direct interaction and spark curiosity. Each puzzle challenges the solver to persist until every secret is uncovered - whether by assembling shapes, unlocking a mechanism, or separating interlocked pieces.

Though rooted in ancient traditions, mechanical puzzles are experiencing a modern revival through online communities and live events. They can be cherished as gifts, collectibles, or shared moments of playful discovery.

EDUCATIONAL VALUE

brain

Logical reasoning is rarely taught as a dedicated subject, yet it remains a fundamental life skill. Through their rich variety, mechanical puzzles stimulate distinct cognitive processes, fostering reasoning, problem-solving, and out-of-the-box thinking. Because each puzzle operates differently, the act of solving them trains the mind to become more independent, inventive, and resourceful. When combined with play, learning transforms into an experience that is both engaging and accessible to all.

The World Mechanical Puzzle Competition embodies core STEM principles, making them accessible to participants of all backgrounds and experience level through hands-on puzzles that blend logic and simple engineering into playful discovery.

The competition stands out among educational events by combining:
Fairness - Success depends on observation, strategy, perseverance, dexterity, and 3D reasoning - not just mathematical skill. Anyone can excel, regardless of previous training or background.
Curiosity - Mechanical puzzles are physical and tactile, sparking natural curiosity through texture, design, movement, and sound.
Craftsmanship - Each puzzle is handmade, reminding participants of the beauty of tangible, artisanal objects. Every participant keeps their puzzles as a lasting, shareable learning experience.

FAQ

For Participants

Not at all. The puzzles vary in style and difficulty, making the experience accessible and enjoyable for both beginners and experienced solvers. Each puzzle features a different form, solution, and set of required skills, encouraging creativity, perseverance, problem-solving, and unconventional thinking.
Yes. Each participant keeps all seven puzzles as a lasting memory, a collectible set, and a learning tool to enjoy and share. After each edition, we also release the previous edition’s Collector & Training Box, allowing anyone to recreate the competition experience from previous editions at home.
Participation is currently open to everyone aged 14 and older. Participants are grouped into appropriate categories for rankings and prizes.
The competition itself lasts two hours, with a little additional time for check-in. However, participants may submit their answers earlier: in the event of a tie, the earlier submission ranks higher.
Top performers worldwide will earn special mechanical puzzle prizes. We are also planning to organize an in-person World Final in the coming years, potentially hosted in Italy.

No. Venue participation is voluntary and does not require any fees.
Venues only need to provide a suitable workstation, including adequate table space and a chair for each participant. To accommodate more participants, we can provide table dividers to help ensure a fair competition.

Minimal. We ask each venue to appoint one contact person to stay aligned on the basic guidelines and handle light coordination with us (e.g., shipping updates, occasional announcements, and updates on registered participants).
Yes. We provide live support during the event for last-minute questions, clarifications, or interpretation issues. However, given the large number of participating venues, we strongly recommend reviewing all materials as soon as they arrive so that any questions can be addressed before competition day.
